I can fit towbars on all cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes. I cover all areas within a 25-mile radius of Bitterne, Southampton. The fitting can take from two to four hours and will require the rear bumper to be removed to allow the fitting of the towbar and electrics.

Towbar Wiring 7-pin/13-pin
When having a towbar fitted it’s not all just about getting the correct towbar, its about getting the wiring kit that provides the object being towed with power and lighting. You need to consider if you plan on towing just a trailer or towbar-mounted bike rack or towing a caravan which needs an additional power supply.

Types of Towbars
Did you know the height and position of your tow ball are set by Law?
The tow ball should be between 350mm and 420mm from the ground with the vehicle in a ‘laden’ state (ie loaded with passengers and luggage specified within the car manufacturers documents). This ensure regardless of where you travel you know its legal.
Alko Hitches
If you are planning on towing a caravan it will most likely be fitted with a Alko Stabiliser so will need to have an ALKO ball fitted.
Alko Coupling have friction pads to prevent lurching and swaying motions whilst towing your caravan, they are designed to improve towing stability and ensure perfect driving dynamics.

Detachable / fitted Swan Neck Towbars
Detachable towbars are less money then retractable towbars but more money than fixed towbars.
Detachable towbars could be considered similar to retractable however instead of being hidden you detachable the actual towing ball when not in use. Its also ideal if you have reversing sensors, due to its slim-line design.
The beam assembly is similar to that of a conventional towbar, however the tow ball on the front of the crossbeam is replaced with a fitting for attaching the detachable towbar.

Fixed Flange Towbars / Tow Hitches
Fixed flange towbars are the cheapest type of towbar fitment. The tow ball is permanently fixed to your car and therefore permanently visible.
This is the best choice if you plan on using the towbar all the time.

7-pin and 13-pin Towbar Wiring Harness
Depending upon what you plan to tow as a minimum you will need power for brake, fog and rear tail lights and also indicators these can be powered through a 7-pin connector.
The connectors get their power from your existing vehicles 12v car electrics.
If you are planning on towing a caravan you would also need to consider internal electrics in your caravan.
The 13-pin wiring kit provides in addition to lighting functions convenient functions such as lights in the caravan, refrigerator operation or reverse lights.
